Garma | July 30 - August 3, 2015
31 July 2015 - 3 August 2015
The Gapan Gallery at the Garma Festival is the time when the year’s prints are showcased in an outdoor gallery.
The Gapan Gallery is a outdoor gathering of limited edition artworks within a grove of stringy bark trees adjacent to the bunggul ground. The Gapan Gallery exhibition is curated by Buku-Larrngay Mulka Centre (Yirrkala Arts Centre).
Gapan brings you face to face with some of the most highly respected Arnhem land Yolngu artists, who are on hand to share their influence and discuss their work exhibited within the Gapan space. The gallery is created by painting the trunks of the Stringy Bark trees with white gapan (white clay used in painting and ceremony), covering the floor with white sand and hanging lights in the branches. This outdoor gallery is always a highlight in the Garma Festival.
