As told by the artist:
‘This artwork reflects on the story of the Djan’kawu (dreamtime sisters associated with creation). When they landed at Yalangbara (Port Bradshaw), south of Yirrkala, about a 1 hour drive.
The first Yolŋu people given birth to were the Rirratjingu people, before they travelled west toward the middle of Arnhem land.
Ŋanmarra (woven mats) were used to cover the children. Not only that, but also used as a grass skirt by women.’
