Wawuru or Dirrmla and Walarritj

As told by the artist:

‘This print depicts the Wawuru tree, it is a Yirritja Moiety tree. The Luŋgurrma, is the Northern Western wind, the old people say that when this wind blows, that it blows into and through the Wawuru tree. All Yirritja clan groups sing this particular event.

Also seen in the print is Walarritj tree, it is a Dhuwa Moiety tree. It grows along the coastline. It also has a story. My clan the Rirratjingu people, sing about people walking along the coast or the beach. Coming across a Walarritj tree, with good shade and sitting down. This event is retold in the songlines. Whether it was in the past or today.
