The title of this print is Djiwul and has the full authority of the second grandmother to depict this image as a print. The djiwul is the seafood that is the ngatha (food) of the green turtle. This djiwul is in the Rirritjingu songline in particular when it comes to the green turtle dhalwa’pu as it’s ngatha (food).
Djiwul firstly is the name of my Granddaughter her full name is Bawu Ralmirrmi Djiwul.
My sister Dhuwarrwarr and I paint the body of water between Yirrkala, rangi (beach) and across to Bremer island. As in painting of my other prints, we paint the top of the gapu, garma wukitj (the body of water sitting in front of the rangi) at Yirrkala and across to Gutjangan Bremer island.
Djiwul is underneath the gapu water, garma wukitj. The name garma Wukitj is also the deeper name for Yalumul (1)’s father who was my brother.
