As told by the artist:
‘This print represents a body of water known as Rulyapa or Nhulunbuy. Back east to Yirrkala and then across to Dhambaliya also known as Bremer Island. This body of water is a symbol for Rirratjiŋu people the land owners that live here in Yirrkala Community.
Yirritja or Dhuwa (the two moieties in Yolŋu kinship) have their own stories and songs from their own sea and fresh water country. The Rulyapa story is always depicted in the stories and the songs of our environment and the people that live in it.
This particular print comes from when I was sitting at the front of my house on the steps looking out to sea. It was heavily raining this day and the water was very rough and this is what I saw of the water.
