Image: 19 x 27.5cm, Paper: 28 x 38.5cm BFK Rives
Dundiwuy #2 Munuŋgurr decided to make this series of prints to honour the story told to her by her mother Ganal Marawili. Ganal’s father was the great Madarrpa’ warrior Mundukul.
Ganal and her father were living at Gurka’wuy (Trial Bay north east Arnhem Land) when these events took place.
Print 1: Biyaṉimi walu (Scared Day)
As told by the artist:
‘The first print depicts the campsite when the Yolŋu first heard the planes coming. Mundukul told his family to run and hide, as he hadn’t seen this type of plane before. They were very scared.’
