Image: 19 x 27.5cm, Paper: 28 x 38.5cm BFK Rives
Dundiwuy #2 Munuŋgurr decided to make this series of prints to honour the story told to her by her mother Ganal Marawili. Ganal’s father was the great Madarrpa’ warrior Mundukul.
Ganal and her father were living at Gurka’wuy (Trial Bay north east Arnhem Land) when these events took place.
Print 2: Retjayi Wanḏina (Run to the Jungle)
As told by the artist:
‘Mundukul told the family to run quickly and run to the jungle for cover, to hide away from the planes. The planes were coming from all directions coming up from Groote Eylandt and down from Yirrkala and meeting overhead at Gurka’wuy. There were a lot of Yolŋu living in these areas.’
