The theme of this year’s Istanbul Biennial is Saltwater, A Theory of Thought Forms and its curator, Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev has created pockets of often controversial art throughout the city and on its waterways and islands. She’s also invited Aboriginal artists Vernon Ah Kee and Djambawa Marawili , representing the Yirrkala artists from Northeast Arnhem land, to display art that confronts brutality, marginalisation and the ongoing fight for sovereignty.
