Wäkuṉ
Wäkuṉ is a sea mullet, mugil cephalus, or silver mullet mugil georgii.
It is associated with the fish trap site at Djawulpawuy / Ngalarra (Mt Dundas) near Yirrkala. The original rock trap was reconstructed for the first time in centuries by Yirrkala School children and the Rirratjingu family at this place in 2004. The trap was designed to catch all kinds of fish. Wakun frequent the in shore waters along the coast all year round.
The design of the water represents the waters that lie between the mainland at Yirrkala and Dhambaliya (Bremer Island) which the Rirratjingu and Djambarrpuyngu clans sing and have water rights to.
