Märrma’ Guḏurrku’

As told by the artist:

The guḏurrku’ (brolga) are found near Dhuruputjpi, my homeland from my Father’s side. I imagined two brolga dancing when I made this print. They were dancing in the morning when the sun is on their face.

I see this happen lots of times, this also happens near Bäniyala in a place called Garaŋarri.

Dhangultji or Guḏurrku (Brolga) inhabit floodplains in huge numbers during the late Dry. They drink from subterranean springs which emerge in the vast flat plains. A safe place to rest, mate and nest. In their avian form they are a manifestation of the Djaŋ’kawu Sisters’ party which travel throughout the Eastern top end, shape shifting and giving birth to the various clans of the Dhuwa moiety. In this artist’s case the Ŋaymil.
