Description
Manimaniŋaniŋ is the Yolŋu word for shellfish which are too small to have food inside
This possibly stems from the word mani which is a word for the front of the neck and relates to the use of such shells as necklace adornments.
The intricate patterns on each tiny shell are completely unique from each other.
They are gathered from floodplains to make necklaces. The shells from each floodplain have a subtly different colour range. Each shell is a masterpiece of design in its own right.
