Gunguri ga Wurrkaḏi 3PP

This design for the etching is Guyiṯa (witchetty grub) and Wurrkaḏi (larvae of horned beetle) feasting on Ganguri (yam). Wurrkaḏi belongs to the Dhuwa moiety. Two clans Galpu and Djarrwark.

Wurrkaḏi lives inside the sand or under the trees. They like to eat Ganguri (wild yams) yolŋu don’t eat Wurrkaḏi and don’t like to touch them but still it is a very special insect.

Guyiṯa lives in a special tree called ba`kpa`k (sterculia quadrifida). When Yolŋu go hunting for yam or Guku (wild honey) if they find Guyiṯa, they straight away chop it and eat it to relieve that dry feeling of their tongue.
