She is the daughter of Stewart Dhammarrandji and married to Banduk’s son Bawaka. She is a member of the small group of Djambarrpuyŋu clan who live at Yirrkala. In Yolŋu law this clan are landowners here but the songs describe their connection as being from their distant homeland to the West.

A talented weaver, Bayalki has recently begun printmaking. Her love of weaving shows through in both mediums, with Gunga (pandanus) often the subject matter of her print designs.
