Father was Nyekamula 1 who died when Datjirri was a young age. He was brought up by his father’s brother Nyepanga at Gurrumuru homeland. He started to paint in the early nineties at his mother’s Djapu country at Wandawuy, his knowledge coming from the formal training he was receiving from the elders that will eventually see him as djirrikay or ritual specialist.
