Gayilil is a weaving artist based in Gapuwiyak. She learned the old practice and art of weaving from a young age onwards through her Mothers and Grandmothers.
Today it is among her daily work to either go and harvest the Gunga (Pandanus), dig up roots for the different colours of the dye, or to process the Gunga for further weaving. Such harvest trips are never done by one person alone and younger girls come along if they can and learn from the older generation through watching and assisting them.
Gayilil said that it takes her about 2-3 weeks of weaving, to finish one Ŋaṉmara (woven mat).
