I was born in Nhulunbuy District hospital, My mother is Yalmay Marika/Yunupingu, My father is Mandawuy Yunupingu. I have five sisters. (Yikanatjpi, Gayili#2, Dhabaṉbal, Gulumbu#2, Gandhurrminy). In my childhood days I used to watch my mother painting the important barks after my grandfather Mathaman Marika. My education was bilingual both English and Dhuwala language. I successfully graduated from Yr 12 in 2005. I travelled to Byron bay with my parents for the blues festival where my father and the band Yothu Yindi played.
