Buluminybuy is the sister of Burrana Campion and they are both Gapuwiyak based weaving artists. Their Grandmother was Mary Guyula.They grew up in Gapuwiyak and Galiwi’nku and at both places they would follow their Mothers and Grandmothers when they would go to harvest the Gunga (Pandanus) and to dig roots for the different colours for the dye.
The old ladies insisted that the young girls would follow them and assist them with the art of weaving. So Buluminybuy and Burrana say they were “learning by doing” and today they know all their different spots for harvesting the material. They have specialised their weaving skills to a high level while they remain assisting the old ladies whenever they can.
