“When the Macassans arrived here at Yirrkala, they came ashore and landed in their prau near the Yirrkala creek. When our people saw them, they all welcomed them with a buŋgul. The Maccassans gave them tobacco, knives, axes, sarongs and other things. Then after the buŋgul, the Macassans showed our people their buŋgul, they danced with knives and showing our people respect. For me and my siblings, we all witnessed the landing of the Macassan prau and the people from Sulawesi.”
