This artwork arose from a chance meeting between John Wolseley and the artist who seized an opportunity to carve a Huon Pine woodblock with the sacred yuku – the corm of the water lily.
The miny’tji (sacred clan design) is particular to the Manggalili clan of North-East Arnhem Land and talks of the freshwater, the Ngukal (kingfish) and the Rangga (the rotting wood- a sacred object under the water).
