Wulu Marawili is a Yolŋu artist of the Maḏarrpa clan and the eldest son of Barunga Statement artist Marrirra Marawili’s second wife. Now living in Yirrkala with his family, he works within the cultural networks and ancestral connections that shape his authority as an artist. Since Marrirra’s passing in 2018, Wulu has increasingly taken on his father’s artistic responsibilities, creating Maḏarrpa designs he is entitled to depict. In addition to bark painting, he is known for working on discarded street signs, combining ancestral narratives with contemporary materials. His practice continues a vital lineage while asserting a distinctive emerging voice.
