Jamie is the son of triple award winning artist Naminapu Maymuru-White. His mother is married to famed educationalist Leon White OAM. He is a musician and ceremonial man. He has recorded and performed with Bangarra Dance Theatre and NAISDAA on his visits to Sydney as a Yolngu songman. Jamie has also chosen as the song man for Gary Lang’s dance production ‘Mokuy‘, in 2014. He was a member of the Djarrak Football team and won a premiership with them in 2000. His brother died tragically around this time which affected the family deeply as detailed in the movie “Lonely Boy Richard” Film Australia. He has always helped his mother in her artwork with materials preparation and execution. He began a new form of incised larrakitj reflecting his mother’s Manggalili law of the Milngiyawuy River in late 2015. He has always assisted his Mum in her artwork which is generally a family affair. As well as making larrakitj in this new form himself he also prepared larrakitj with embossed stars for his mother.
